CenterPoint Energy delivers electricity to the greater Houston metropolitan area, serving approximately 2.5 million customers across Harris County and surrounding counties. If you live in Houston, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Pearland, or most of the Houston suburbs, CenterPoint maintains the electrical infrastructure that delivers your power.
Important: CenterPoint Energy is your TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Service Provider), not your retail electricity provider. CenterPoint delivers electricity to your home through its grid infrastructure and handles outage restoration, but it does not sell electricity plans. You choose a separate licensed retail provider who uses CenterPoint's delivery network.
CenterPoint Delivery Charges
CenterPoint's delivery charges are set by the Texas PUC. They include a fixed monthly base charge and a per-kWh delivery fee. All retail providers in the CenterPoint territory use the same delivery infrastructure and pay the same regulated delivery rates.

CenterPoint completed a major rate case in 2023 following significant capital investment driven by post-Uri grid hardening requirements. The PUCT approved revised residential rates effective in 2024, reflecting increased infrastructure costs. CenterPoint also files periodic Distribution Cost Recovery Factor (DCRF) and Transmission Cost Recovery Factor (TCRF) interim tariff adjustments throughout the year. CenterPoint's smart meter program covers nearly all residential accounts in the service area, enabling two-way communication for outage detection and remote switching.
