TDSP Territory Guides

Delivery charges, service areas, and current plan data for each territory.

What is a Texas TDSP?

TDSP stands for Transmission and Distribution Service Provider. Also called a transmission and distribution utility (TDU), it maintains the power lines and meters that deliver electricity and handles outage restoration. In Texas's deregulated electricity market, you choose a retail electricity provider (REP) and a plan; your service address determines your delivery utility.

TDSP vs. retail electricity provider

Your TDSP (delivery utility)
Owns the poles, wires and meter, restores power after outages, and charges regulated delivery fees. Your address decides it, so you can't choose it.
Your retail electricity provider (REP)
Sells you the electricity plan, sets the energy rate and contract terms, and sends your bill. In a competitive area, this is the part you choose.

Why your delivery territory matters

Electricity plan availability and delivery charges depend on your utility area. Selecting the right territory lets TrueBill compare plans by estimated monthly bill at your usage, including energy charges, delivery charges, fees, and credits. Switching retail providers at the same address does not change your delivery utility. See how TDU delivery charges affect your bill.

Delivery utilities TrueBill compares

  • Oncor Electric Delivery: Parts of North, Central and West Texas
  • CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric: Greater Houston area
  • AEP Texas North: Abilene, San Angelo, and surrounding West Texas
  • AEP Texas Central: Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, and South Texas
  • Texas-New Mexico Power: Parts of North Texas, DFW suburbs, and the Gulf Coast

Areas without retail choice

Not every Texas address is served by one of these five utilities. City-owned utilities such as Austin Energy and CPS Energy in San Antonio, most electric cooperatives, and regulated utilities outside the ERCOT market such as El Paso Electric, Entergy Texas, Xcel Energy and SWEPCO sell electricity directly, so their customers cannot choose a retail provider. Lubbock Power & Light customers can choose a provider, but TrueBill does not yet compare plans for its area.

Can a ZIP code identify your utility?

A ZIP code can cross utility boundaries, so this map is a starting point, not an address-level service guarantee. Check the delivery utility on your electricity bill or confirm the service address with the provider before enrolling. The map covers the five delivery areas TrueBill currently compares; some addresses are served by municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, or utilities outside our coverage.
