Oncor Electric Delivery is the largest transmission and distribution utility in Texas, serving over 10 million customers across a 91,000-square-mile area. If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Central Texas, or many parts of West Texas, Oncor maintains the wires that deliver your electricity, regardless of which retail provider you choose.

What OncorDoes (and Doesn't Do)

Oncor handles:
  • Power line and transformer maintenance
  • Outage detection and restoration
  • Meter reading and installation
  • Regulated delivery charges (set by the PUC)
  • New service connection
Oncor does NOT handle:
  • Selling electricity plans
  • Setting energy prices
  • Your retail electricity contract
  • Billing for energy charges
  • Switching providers

Oncor is responsible for the physical delivery of electricity: maintaining power lines, transformers, substations, and meters. They respond to outages and maintain infrastructure. They do not sell electricity plans; that is done by licensed retail electricity providers (REPs) who compete for your business.

Oncor Delivery Charges

Oncor's delivery charges are regulated by the Texas Public Utility Commission and are the same for every customer at a given address, regardless of which retail provider you choose. Charges include a fixed monthly base charge plus a per-kWh delivery fee.

TrueBill includes Oncor delivery charges in every plan estimate. Most comparison sites show only the energy supply rate — hiding the full cost. When you compare plans on TrueBill, the monthly cost you see already includes both the energy charge and the Oncor delivery fee.

Frequently Asked Questions About Oncor

What is Oncor Electric Delivery?
Oncor is the Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) for most of North and Central Texas. They own and maintain the physical electrical infrastructure: poles, wires, transformers, and meters. You cannot choose Oncor as your electricity plan provider; instead, you choose a licensed retail provider who uses Oncor's grid to deliver power to your home.
Does Oncor set my electricity rate?
Oncor sets the delivery charge portion of your bill, which is regulated by the Texas PUC. However, the energy supply rate, which is the largest part of your bill, is set by the retail provider you choose. Switching providers does not change your delivery charges.
Who do I call for a power outage in the Oncor service area?
Call Oncor at 888-313-4747 or report outages at oncor.com. Outage restoration is handled by Oncor, not your retail provider. Your retail provider has no ability to restore power.
Can I switch electricity providers in the Oncor territory?
Yes. The Oncor service territory is fully deregulated. You can choose any licensed Texas retail electricity provider. Switching takes 1–3 business days and causes no service interruption.
How much are Oncor delivery charges?
Oncor charges a monthly base fee (currently around $3–$4/month for residential customers) plus a per-kWh delivery charge (around 3–4 cents/kWh). These amounts are set by the Texas PUC and are included in TrueBill's plan estimates. Exact current rates are published at oncor.com.
