TXU's lineup spans more distinct plan structures than most competitors: flat single-rate plans (Simple Rate), usage-tiered discount plans (Smart Value, Smart Discount), time-based plans with free periods (Free Nights & Solar Days, Free Pass), season-weighted plans (Summer Pass, Season Pass), rewards-linked plans (Freedom Rewards), and bundles that include A/C maintenance. Because the structures differ so much, two TXU plans with similar advertised rates can produce very different bills at the same usage.
Contract Options

Free-period plans only make sense when a meaningful share of your usage falls inside the free window — the daytime rate is priced above comparable flat plans to fund the free hours. Renewable Positioning
TXU markets solar-branded options such as Solar Club. As with any Texas plan, the actual renewable content percentage is disclosed on the plan's EFL — check it there rather than relying on the plan name.
What to Check Before Picking a TXU Energy Plan
TXU's discount-tier plans can show several cents per kWh of difference between 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh on the same EFL. Look up the average price at the usage level closest to your own, not the headline number.
On free-nights style plans, electricity used outside the free window costs more than a comparable flat-rate plan. Estimate what share of your usage actually falls in the free window before assuming savings.
Listed cancellation fees in TXU plan documents are higher on 24-month terms than 12-month terms. Confirm the exact fee in the EFL and Terms of Service before enrolling.
