Home-charging an EV adds several hundred kWh to a typical month — at three to four miles per kWh, roughly 250–350 kWh per thousand miles driven. That does two things to plan economics: it pushes many households into the 1,500–2,000+ kWh range where high-usage pricing matters, and it concentrates a large, schedulable load in whatever hours you choose to charge.

That second property is why time-of-use plans exist on this page. If your car charges between, say, 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., a free-nights plan can move your single biggest new load into hours you don't pay energy charges for. The plans listed below have free-window or day/night pricing that our formula review has verified, so their estimates reflect the actual window mechanics — the trade being a higher day rate on everything else you use.

The free-window structure isn't automatically the win: if your household's daytime usage is heavy (home office, daytime A/C), the elevated day rate can eat the overnight savings. The alternative worth pricing is a cheap flat-rate plan at your new, higher usage level — at 2,000 kWh the flat market gets very competitive, and charging still costs the same rate around the clock.

The benchmark price undersells these plans for EV use

EFL average prices assume a typical usage split across the day. An EV household pushing 400+ kWh into the free window does meaningfully better than the disclosed average — and a household that doesn't shift anything does worse.

Level 2 charging and your service

A Level 2 charger draws like a second A/C. It won't change your delivery charges structurally, but it makes usage-level plan math (and hitting 2,000+ kWh) arrive faster than most owners expect.

Reading the EFL for These Plans

On a free-nights EFL, find three numbers: the free window's exact hours, the day rate charged outside the window, and the average prices at 1,000 and 2,000 kWh (which assume a standard usage split — your EV shifts that split in your favor if you charge overnight). On flat-rate alternatives, the 2,000 kWh average price is the number that matters once charging is added. Either way, check the base charge and early termination fee as usual.

Why do so few time-of-use plans show here?
We only list time-based plans whose pricing formulas have passed our EFL review — a free-window estimate is worthless if the window mechanics aren't modeled correctly. Providers' unverified time-of-use listings stay hidden until review completes, so this list can be shorter than the marketing landscape suggests.
What about EV-specific plans providers advertise?
Several providers market EV-branded plans through their own channels — typically free-nights structures or charging credits under a different name. If you're evaluating one, apply the same tests: exact window hours, day rate, average prices at your usage, and the fee schedule, all from the EFL rather than the plan name.
